ATTORNEY PROFILE

John Matson's wealth of professional and personal experience make him uniquely qualified to work and collaborate with people who want to change their lives for the better. He he has a J.D. (Juris Doctorate) from the University of British Columbia School of Law, and an LL.M. (Masters of Laws) in Native American law and Tribal Governance from Seattle University School of Law where he graduated magna cum laude. He is admitted to practice law in New York (2009) and Washington (2017).

John has lived all around the United States, as well as in Canada, Europe, and Latin America. He appreciates and celebrates multi-culturalism, and can speak Spanish and Portuguese at conversational levels. Professionally, John has worked in diverse fields that have included aquaculture, homebuilding, network/system engineering, business development, software licensing, and program/project management. For nearly a decade, he managed global software licensing programs and product launches for Microsoft. That work included drafting software licenses/templates, managing vendors, and negotiating multimillion dollar hardware and software deals with mobile handset OEMs and telecom and media companies around the world.

John's law practice is focused on families with the goal of helping people live richer, fuller lives. 

John has called Washington his permanent home since 2006 when he graduated from the University of British Columbia School of Law. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and children, playing volleyball, doing carpentry and woodworking, and participating in outdoor activities. He also is committed to a regular practice of self-care that includes meditation, yoga, exercise, healthy diet, and sound/vibrational therapy.

Ultimately, John believes in people and their dreams. He knows from personal experience that creating a brighter future takes courage, dedication, and support. He know what it takes to overcome challenges because he has had to do it. He knows first hand what it takes to face fears and put in the long hours to achieve goals. His experience enables him to ensure that each client considers the full picture, including non-legal factors that can impact or color the legal approach, such as moral, ethical, economic, social, family, relationship, and business factors, and to come to the optimal decision possible for each client.
